A Guide to Early Airport Check-in Procedures

Airport delays may happen

Regardless of the size of the airport, early check-in is especially important now with the airport travel issues with the government shutdown. Which means that the airports are running short-staffed and that is going to cause some travel issues.

Normally, we had a domestic 2-hour window before flights… now we are looking at 2 1/2 to 3 hours that we need to be at the airport to check in for our flight.
Checking in means being at the airport and not simply checking in online; bags must be checked in at least 45 minutes before departure of your flight. If you are not checking bags, a 30-minute check-in may still be an option, but definitely not suggested. Keep in mind, TSA is requiring a Real ID for domestic travel and a valid passport for international travel. Domestic travelers can take advantage of curbside, which is offered in most airports. Most international travelers will have to check inside. A few airlines, like Delta and United, offer international check-in curbside, but all documentation must be completed before travel.

Double-check with your airline about weight and luggage conditions before arriving at the airport for an easier traveling experience. And of course, keep tabs on your flight to make sure it isn’t delayed or canceled. If your flight is canceled, get on the app immediately as you go to the airline desk. You might get a faster change of flights on your airline app.

This is frustrating for the travelers and the people working curbside, our Skycaps, TSA, and all those wonderful people just doing the best they can during this hectic travel time.
